Australia remained unbeaten in pink-ball Tests at Adelaide Oval as they beat India by 10 wickets within seven sessions. Skipper Pat Cummins bagged a five-wicket haul to mop up the Indian tail early in the first session on Day 3 and then Australian openers made short work of the nominal target of 19.
Pant falls early
Starting Day 2 at an overnight score of 128/5, India lost the wicket of Rishabh Pant in the first over. Mitchell Starc managed to get an outside edge off Pant's bat which carried to Steve Smith in slip cordon. Pant departed after scoring 28 runs from 31 balls. Ravichandran Ashwin looked promising but Cummins dismissed him with a short ball. He departed for a single-digit score. Harshit Rana faced a barrage of short balls. Cummins dismissed him for a 12-ball duck.
Reddy misses fifty again
After the eighth wicket, Nitish Reddy got rid off the trail and entertained the crowd with a few attacking shots. But Cummins completed his fifer as Reddy played an uppercut that was caught by Nathan McSweeney at a fine third man. Reddy scored 42 runs from 47 balls including six fours and a six. Mohammed Siraj was dropped off the first ball. He hit a boundary before falling to Scott Boland. India were bowled out for 175.
Easy run chase
Openers Nathan McSweeney and Usman Khawaja finished the run chase in just 3.2 overs. Khawaja hit the winning runs against Siraj.
Starc's career-best, Head's electrifying knock
Earlier, skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first. Mitchell Starc bagged his career-best six-wicket haul to bowl out India for 180. Reddy was the top-scorer with 42 runs from 54 balls.
In reply, McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne got Australia off to a good star. Labuschagne departed after scoring a half-century but it was Travis Head's counter-attacking 140-run knock that helped Australia post 337 on the board. The hosts took a 157-run lead. For the visitors, Bumrah and Siraj claimed four wickets each.
