IND Vs AUS 3rd Test: Australia captain Pat Cummins was left stumped as Jasprit Bumrah nonchalantly smashed his bouncer for a six over long leg. Cummins couldn't do anything but smile as he looked at Bumrah and started walking back to his bowling mark.
This was the 10th six of Bumrah's career. He remained unbeaten on 10 at the end of Day 4's play. His unbeaten partnership for the 10th wicket with Akash Deep helped India avoid follow-on. After Bumrah, Deep hit Cummins for a monstrous six as well to lift the follow-on sword dangling over tourists' heads. India were 252/9 when bad light interrupted play. They still trail by 193 runs.
Bumrah's witty answer to journalist
Earlier, on Day 3, Bumrah bagged a six-wicket haul, the best bowling figures by an Indian bowler at The Gabba. In the press conference, he had an interesting exchange with one of the reporters questioning his batting acumen.
"Hi, Jasprit. What is your assessment of the batting, although you are not the best person to answer the question, but what do you think about the situation of the team, considering the conditions in Gabba?" asked the reporter.
"It's an interesting question. But, you are questioning my batting ability. You should use Google and see who has got the most number of runs in a Test over. But, jokes apart. That's another story," he replied as laughter filled the room.
Bumrah holds the record for most runs in an over in Test cricket. He went berserk against Stuart Broad as 35 runs were scored in an over at Edgbaston, Birmingham in 2022.
Australia lose advantage in Gabba Test
Australia were on top but dropping KL Rahul's catch on first day of Day 4, losing Josh Hazlewood's services due to a calf strain, multiple rain interruptions proved to be expensive for them. Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja went on to score half-centuries whereas the 10th wicket partnership has frustrating them. It may have been a different story had Hazlewood been available to bowl on Day 4.
The Gabba Test is headed towards a draw until and unless bowlers wreak havoc on the final day of the Test. Also, the weather forecast of Day 5 does not look promising either. A few interruptions or long delays can be expected on Day 5.
