Sam Konstas speaks on altercation.

Australian debutant Sam Konstas responded to his altercation with Virat Kohli on the first day of the Boxing Day Test match at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground. During the drinks break, Konstas, who had a fantastic performance with the bat in the first session, talked to the host announcer about his shoulder tackle incident with Kohli.

On the first day of the Boxing Day Test match, the incident took place between the ninth and tenth over. A deliberate shoulder tackle between the Indian sensation Virat Kohli and Konstas after the young Aussies had given Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj some brutal punishment with the bat. The 19-year-old Konstas refused to back down and went up to Virat Kohli, with whom he had a heated argument.

During the morning session's drinks break, Konstas discussed the incident and stated that while he would prefer to keep it on the field, he would not mind putting up a fierce fight against the Indian team.

"Whatever happens on the field stays on the field. I just love competing and it doesn't get any better for a debut than this packed stadium," Konstas said.

Konstas wants to target Bumrah again

"It's quite surreal. Look at the turnout (of the crowd). I'm just trying to play with some freedom and back myself. Hopefully, I can get some more. (Asked about the ramp shot off Bumrah) I was only thinking about it when the ball was coming down. I'll look to keep targeting him. Hopefully, he might come back on soon," Konstas told the broadcaster.

Andy Pycroft, the match referee, will undoubtedly investigate the situation. The player would be docked three or four demerit points if Pycroft determined that the Konstas-Kohli touch was a Level Two offence. A suspension for the Sydney Test in the New Year would be triggered by four points. Only a smack on the wrist and probably a match fee fine would be appropriate for a Level One offence.
