Surprisingly, Sanju Samson was dropped from the playing XI in the second T20I against England which was played on July 4. In place of star CSK batter, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was given a chance to make his international debut.
New twist in Sanju Samson's fiasco
Now, a latest report from Cricbuzz has suggested that Sanju Samson was not dropped. As per the report, the star Indian opener is believed to have voluntarily stepped aside from the line-up to pave for the 15-year-old opener, so that he can make his much-awaited international debut.

However, this is one of the possible theories doing the rounds among those who know the actual picture of the dressing room. While, Sanju Samson is not going through a good form, as he endured three single digit scores in as many T20I appearances. Notably, the report suggests that the move showed Samson's blind trust in the team management, with the wicketkeeper-batter being considered in the long-term plans of the T20I setup.
How the debut went for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
The 15-year-old opener could not enjoy his debut much, as he got out after hitting two marvelous sixes. He recorded a score of 14 off 10 balls in his maiden T20I inning, however those two sixes by him tells a lot about his immense potential to rule this format in the longer future.
Next challenge for Indian team
After suffering their third loss in the last four outings, the Shreyas Iyer-led side will look to work on their weak areas before facing the English side again in the third T20I clash on Tuesday, July 7 at the Trent Bridge Cricket Ground in West Bridgford. It will be interesting to see if the Indian team management will give another chance to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi or Sanju Samson will return to the playing XI.
Currently, the English team leads the five-game series by 1-0, as the first clash which was played in Durham was abandoned due to heavy rain after the conclusion of India's batting.
