Cricket fans worldwide are eagerly anticipating the senior India debut of 15-year-old batting wonder Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, but the wait continues to drag on match after match. Speculations were rife rampant that the explosive opener would earn his first senior cap during the recent two-match T20I series against Ireland. However, the team management decided otherwise, and a struggling Indian side subsequently slumped to an unprecedented 0-2 series whitewash against the Irish.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi hints at potential debut in Manchester with cryptic post
Following that disappointment, India headed for a five-match T20I series against England, reviving fans' expectations that the teenage prodigy would finally get his opportunity on English soil. Once again, supporters were left disappointed when the batting powerhouse was left out of the starting lineup for the series opener, though the match was ultimately abandoned anyway due to relentless rain.
Now, with the second T20I in Manchester just around the corner, the young phenom has fueled intense speculation regarding his potential debut. Sooryavanshi took to Instagram, sharing a photo of himself with a cryptic two-word caption: "New Chapter."

Morne Morkel thinks otherwise
There is absolutely no question regarding Sooryavanshi’s immense talent, especially after the teenager left world-class bowlers completely helpless during the 2025 and 2026 IPL seasons with his explosive power-hitting. Despite this, the Indian team management remains fiercely loyal to their established stars, sticking by them even in the wake of a shocking, unprecedented series defeat to Ireland. If selectors decide to maintain the opening partnership of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, the only viable route into the lineup for Sooryavanshi might be replacing Tilak Varma, who has recently struggled to accelerate his scoring. Dropping Varma would allow Samson to shift down the batting order while preventing the lineup from becoming overly dominated by left-handers.
However, India's bowling coach, Morne Morkel, appeared to dismiss the likelihood of the young southpaw breaking into the starting XI during his pre-match press conference. Morkel clearly said that the necessity of backing the core group of players who just delivered a T20 World Cup title triumph earlier this year. Morkel further explained that the coaching staff is highly reluctant to displace players from their preferred positions just to accommodate a new batter in the side.
"As a coaching staff, it’s only fair to show faith and back your players. Yes, there’s a young man knocking on the door, and it’s exciting," Morkel said at the presser.
