After winning the toss, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer expressed his desire to capitalize on the prevailing match conditions and urged his team to adapt swiftly. Emphasising the need for smart cricket, Iyer pointed to the squad's extensive experience and noted that despite having a day off on Friday, the players were eager to get on the field. He also announced two lineup changes, handing debuts to Suryansh and Prince. Iyer praised Shedge as a sensational player across both domestic cricket and the IPL, while adding that he wanted to shield Prince from excessive pressure, trusting his natural intelligence to adapt to the game.

On the other side, Ireland captain Lorcan Tucker was unfazed by losing the toss, stating that his team was perfectly content with batting first. He emphasized the importance of assessing the pitch early on and commended his team's defensive bowling performance from the previous match. Tucker confirmed that Humphreys was fit to play, allowing Ireland to field an unchanged lineup. Additionally, he shared high praise for Harry Tector, noting that reaching the milestone of 100 caps was a true testament to Tector's hard work and dedication.
