Rajasthan Royals (RR) pacer Avesh Khan stunned the crowd at Eden Gardens, Kolkata as he pulled off a sensational jaw-dropping one-handed catch on his follow-through to dismiss Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in-form opener Phil Salt. In the fourth over of the innings, Salt went on the back foot to hit the ball past the bowler but could not get the elevation. Avesh stuck his left hand out and managed to hold on to it. After taking the catch, Avesh pointed to RR skipper Sanju Samson. Later, he took Samson’s glove and showed it to the crowd.
Samson’s comments led to Avesh’s celebration
In RR’s previous clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS), Avesh and Samson were involved in a collision in an attempt to take Ashutosh Sharma’s catch in the penultimate over of the innings. Avesh wanted to take the catch but Samson made the call and dropped it. After the match, Samson said that it is easier to take the high catches with gloves.
“We had few funny instances from last year and this year. But I am really happy that everyone is eager to go and catch. I would be very sad if people are just staying away and not catching it. It gets a bit tough actually - the stadium is full of noise and when people call, we are looking at the ball, we can't look who is coming. I need to tell my fast bowlers that it's a bit easier to catch with the gloves instead of hands,” Samson had said in the post-match presentation.
However, Ashutosh’s dropped catch turned out to be expensive as he contributed with a 31-run cameo. But RR ende dup winning the last-over thriller as Shimron Hetmyer launched an onslaught in the slog overs.
Avesh dismisses Narine but fails to finish well
Avesh was exceptional with his spell with the new ball. He conceded just 12 runs from two overs and picked up the crucial wicket of Salt. He was impressive with the old ball too. The Indian pacer ended Sunil narine's stay at the crease. Narine smashed his maiden T20 century. However, in the penultimate over, he tried out to be expensive. Rinku Smashed him for a six and a four. Later, Venkatesh Iyer ended his quota of overs with a boundary.
