Highlights:

Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed in 90s for the third time in his IPL career.

Gaikwad was not disappointed that he was dismissed for 98.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 98 runs and helped his side post 212/3 on the board which turned out to be too big a total for visitors Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The Pat Cummins-led side lost the match by 78 runs. After the emphatic win over SRH, Gaikwad was asked about whether he is vocal in the dressing room or not in the post-match presentation ceremony.

“I'm not vocal. Can't tell seniors in the dressing room what to do. You have to take the back seat and let them do their job,” said Gaikwad.

He missed his second century of the season by just two runs. After the win, he was not disappointed missing out on another century but failing to hit a few more boundaries to push the score. He also pointed out the areas where CSK lacked in the last game.

“I wasn't thinking about hundred. Wanted to make sure we get to 220-odd. I was disappointed that I missed 4-5 hits at the back end. During innings break I felt it could make a difference and I was upset. But thankfully it was enough. Last game we made some errors. Some loose balls here and there. Today we were outstanding in the field. Stuck to the plans and knew what the conditions were. With impact player rule, you always want the extra 20 runs. Never know what par score is,” he said.

Gaikwad in awe of his bowlers

Gaikwad lauded Tushar Deshpande for getting three crucial wickets in the powerplay overs to set the tone. Also, he praised Ravindra Jadeja for keeping it tight in the middle overs despite dew playing a big role.

“That was one area - not getting wickets in powerplay. That's the only way it can put opposition in back foot. He's bowling really well (Deshpande). His hard work is paying off. Special mention to Jaddu as well. In these wet conditions to go for 22 runs, that was the match turning spell,” he added.

The 78-run win helped CSK boost their net run rate (NRR). They climbed to the third spot with five wins from nine games. They will face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their next encounter on May 1 at home.
