GT clinched maiden title in 2022
In the 2022 IPL season, the GT won their first-ever title under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, making a remarkable debut in the league. Currently, Gill leads the team after Pandya's return to Mumbai Indians (MI), with Ashish Nehra as their coach.
The decisive match took place at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where GT defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven wickets to claim the championship. RR captain Sanju Samson opted to bat first after winning the toss. Despite their efforts, RR managed to score only 130 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
In pursuit of the 131-run target, GT successfully chased it down, scoring 133 runs for the loss of three wickets in just 18.1 overs. Pandya's exceptional performance earned him the 'player of the match' title.
