Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings have reached the IPL final only once.

Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have five IPL titles each.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) will enter its 17th edition in 2024. So far, there are seven champions in the league's history (including now-defunct Hyderabad-based franchise Deccan Chargers). However, there are teams that have been a part of the IPL since its inaugural season in 2008 but are yet to get their hands on the coveted trophy.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

RCB have a large fanbase and is one of the most popular franchises on social media. RCB were lacklustre in the inaugural season but qualified for the final in IPL 2009. Under Anil Kumble's leadership, RCB reached the final but were beaten by Deccan Chargers by just six runs in a last-over thriller. The next time they made it into the final was in IPL 2011. Daniel Vettori-led RCB were outclassed by MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final as they lost by 58 runs.

Under Virat Kohli's leadership, RCB managed to qualify for the final in IPL 2016. In a high-scoring affair, RCB were dictating terms in the run chase till Kohli lost his wicket. RCB lost the match by eight runs. Since then, RCB are yet to qualify for the final despite making it to the playoffs three times.

Delhi Capitals

Known as Delhi Daredevils till IPL 2018, they were beaten in the semi-finals of the first two seasons. They made it to the playoffs twice before making it to their first-ever IPL final in the 2020 edition. In Dubai, the Shreyas Iyer-led side lost to Mumbai Indians by five wickets. They qualified for the playoffs IPL 2021 but didn’t progress to the final.

Punjab Kings

Known as Kings XI Punjab till IPL 2020, they played the semi-final in the inaugural season but failed to make it to playoffs for the next five seasons. They reached the final for the first time in IPL 2014. However, despite Wriddhiman Saha's unbeaten 115 they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a close encounter. Since then, the Punjab-based franchise has yet to make it to the playoffs.

Other franchises who didn’t win IPL

Pune Warriors India (three seasons), Kochi Tuskers Kerala (one season), Rising Pune Supergiant (two seasons), Gujarat Lions (two seasons) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are other franchises that have not won an IPL. LSG are the only franchise on the list that will feature in IPL 2024.
