After two consecutive ‘Player of the match’ performances, Mayank Yadav was unimpressive in his first over against Gujarat Titans (GT) with the new ball. The young pace sensation conceded 13 runs including two boundaries off Sai Sudharsan’s bat. After his first over, Mayank left the field and caused problems for LSG as they were one bowler short.
However, Mayank’s absence did not turn out to be fatal for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Yash Thakur stood up to the task and picked up a five-wicket haul to help LSG bowl out GT for 130 with seven balls left in the innings and win by 33 runs.
Krunal gives update
While spinners and Mayank were effective on Lucknow’s slow pitch, LSG need Mayank’s services especially for away games. After the game, left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya said that he doesn't know what happened to him.
“I don't know what is happening, but I had a couple of seconds with him, he seems OK. He is a bright prospect, bowled gun in the nets, last year missed out. Good head on his shoulders and unbelievable prospect and interesting to see how he will pan out in his career,” Krunal told the broadcasters after picking up three wickets and conceded 11 runs from his quota of four overs.
LSG will be hoping that the left side strain does not lead to the 21-year-old getting ruled out for a few games. The KL Rahul-led side will face Rishabh Pant's Delhi Capitals on April 10 in Jaipur.
Bishop wants Mayank to be taken care of
Former West Indian pacer Ian Bishop emphasised on the need to manage Mayank to prolong his career.
"He should be treated and protected well as it is the early stages of his career. His body should get stronger considering he bowls at such a high pace," he said.
"His franchise and the country's board should take note of it," Bishop said while giving Pat Cummins and Cricket Australia’s (CA) example.
