Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Thursday (March 24) handed over the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to Ravindra Jadeja ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.
Dhoni's records
Dhoni, who led CSK from the first season of IPL in 2008, has won 6 titles for his franchise Chennai Super Kings in the last 14 years. Dhoni lifted the IPL trophies four times he managed to win two Champions League titles as well.
It is worth noting that Dhoni is the only player in IPL history to play most number (204) of matches as captain in IPL history. Dhoni won 121 matches for Chennai as the skipper and he lost 82 matches as CSK skipper.
Apart from this, in last 14 seasons of IPL, Chennai qualified for the playoffs 11 times in IPL and 9 times the Chennai-based franchise qualified for the final.
Dhoni played 204 matches as a captain for Chennai from the inaugural edition of IPL, in 2008. As captain, Dhoni has scored 4456 runs in 204 matches in IPL. On the other hand, former RCB skipper Virat Kohli bagged 4881 runs in IPL and in this case, Dhoni is behind Kohli.
In the IPL, Dhoni has done a tremendous job behind the stumps. The 40-year-old former Indian skipper has the most dismissals (161) in IPL.
CSK in IPL 2022
Defending champions CSK will play in the inaugural match of IPL against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 26, at the Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai, it the first IPL match of 2022. The final or last match of the IPL is slated to be played on May 29.
Mumbai Indians franchise led by Rohit Sharma will have Delhi Capitals (DC), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Lucknow Super Giants in Group A of the 2022 edition of IPL.
On the other hand, Group B is comprised of defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Sunrises Hyderabad (SRH), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans.
With the addition of two new teams, this year’s IPL will have 10 teams vying for the prestigious trophy. Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants are the two new entrants.
