RCB superstar Virat Kohli scripts history, clocks all-time IPL record against CSK

Virat Kohli created history during Chennai Super Kings (CSK) versus Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) IPL 2025 clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. 

With RCB determined to end their 17-year drought of victories at the Chepauk Stadium, there were high expectations surrounding Virat Kohli's performance in this match. These expectations were further fueled by his impressive half-century in the previous game against KKR.

Despite not having a particularly impactful day with the bat in this crucial match, Virat Kohli still managed to achieve a significant milestone, breaking an all-time record.

Although Virat Kohli faced challenges against Chennai Super Kings' bowling attack, scoring 31 runs off 30 deliveries before being dismissed by Noor Ahmad, he still achieved a notable feat. With these runs, Kohli's total against CSK in the IPL now stands at 1084, making him the highest run-scorer against this particular franchise in the league's history. In doing so, Kohli surpassed the previous record held by Shikhar Dhawan, who has accumulated 1057 runs against CSK in his IPL career.

Virat Kohli's measured innings, while setting a record against CSK, also meant he narrowly missed out on achieving two other significant milestones. He was 55 runs shy of becoming the first Indian to reach 13,000 runs in T20 cricket but fell just 24 runs short. Additionally, he needed only seven more runs to reach 5,000 runs as an opening batter in T20 matches.
