Story Highlights:

Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans pulled off the highest successful runchase against Delhi Capitals.

Gill has been fined for the first time in the ongoing IPL 2025.

Gill lauded Jos Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford for their onslaught in slog overs.

Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining slow over-rate during the clash against Delhi Capitals at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on April 19.

"As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Gill was fined INR 12 lakhs," the Indian Premier League (IPL) said in a statement.

In extreme heat, GT bowlers faced cramps, especially Ishant Sharma who needed medical attention during the slog overs. Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Axar Patel and GT's top-order batter Jos Buttler faced cramps as well. However, Buttler braved challenging contions and remained unbeaten on 97 to help his side win by seven wickets with four balls to spare.

GT create record

This was GT's highest runchase in IPL history. Before chasing down 204, their highest successful run chase of 198 came against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2023 edition. It is also the highest succesful run chase against DC. The previous record belonged to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). CSK chased down 188 in the inaugural edition in 2008 whereas SRH did it a decade later.

Gill lauds bowlers

After the match, Gill was happy with the way bowlers turned it around in the slog overs. He also explained why left-arm spinner Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore bowled just one over.

"At one point, it looked like the total was going to be 220-230. The way we pulled back, credit to the bowlers. Even in the first game, chasing around 245, we were right in the game, lost by just 10 runs. We've been chasing well, we've been defending well. They were ahead in the game, with Axar batting, it was difficult to hit the fast bowlers, so we thought we'll continue with them," Gill said in the post-match presentation.

Gill in awe of Buttler, Rutherford

Gill was run out for a single-digit score. As the team won, he lauded Buttler and middle-order batter Sherfane Rutherford for their onslaught.

"Disappointing way to get out (run-out), but we've got plenty of games here and hopefully will get my chance. Magnificent the way Butter and Rutherford rotated strike and those hits were tremendous. It was not just brutal hitting, it was very calculated batting, it was a treat to watch. Very happy to get this win," he added.

GT are currently at the top of the points table with five wins from seven games.
