SRH lost their IPL 2026 opener vs RCB.

Ishan Kishan becomes SRH's stand in captain in Pat Cummins absence.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) handed over the captaincy to Ishan Kishan for the initial stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 as their regular skipper is currently on the road to recovery. However, the leadership change couldn’t help SRH secure a win, as they lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets at Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 28.

Before the match, there were speculations that star opener Abhishek Sharma might be given the captaincy. But the franchise’s social media announcement confirmed that Ishan Kishan would lead the side, surprising many, including Abhishek’s mentor and former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.

Speaking to Sports Tak, Yuvraj pointed out that even though Abhishek has been with SRH for eight straight years and has performed consistently, he wasn’t considered for the captaincy.

“Abhishek Sharma has been playing for the SRH for the last 7 years and has been performing well for them. He has given his heart and soul to the franchise. He is also captaining at the state level, but he still didn’t get the captaincy of SRH," Yuvraj Singh said.
