Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) star Caribbean batter Nicholas Pooran did not hold back his emotions as Abdul Samad lost his wicket on the penultimate delivery of the innings in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). In LSG's must-win clash at Ekana Cricket Stadium on May 19, there were two run outs in the last over where Samad survived but the other batter did not. He could not found a boundary either and got bowled for just three runs from six balls which frustrated Pooran.
As Samad missed the fuller delivery from Nitish Kumar Reddy and lost his wicket, Pooran removed his pad and threw it on the dressing room glass in anger. The video has been widely shared on social media -
Earlier in the over, Pooran had called for a single via byes when Samad missed the ball but SRH wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan's under-arm throw caught him short of the crease. Pooran departed for a 26-ball 45 with three balls to go in the innings. He had started the over with a maximum and was livid with himself on missing out. Shardul Thakur arrived and hit a four before he was run out as well. LSG managed to post 205/7 on the board. In the post-match presentation, skipper Rishabh Pant admitted that they were 10-15 runs short considering the conditions.
Pant promotes himself but falls cheaply again
Earlier in the innings, Pooran had to bat at no.4 as skipper Pant decided to promote himself up the order. Pant could not justify the promotion and was dismissed caught and bowled by Eshan Malinga for seven runs from six balls. While Pooran is the leading run-scorer for LSG this season, Pant has been the missing link among top seven batters. He has managed to score 135 runs from 11 innings at an average of 12.27. His strike rate is 100.
