'I didn't think that I'll be a Test captain before': Japrit Bumrah opens up on leading MI for the first time

Jasprit Bumrah joked about becoming India’s Test captain before leading Mumbai Indians in IPL.

Hardik Pandya missed the PBKS clash due to back spasms, while Suryakumar Yadav was unavailable for personal reasons.

Mumbai Indians (MI) are playing against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash on Thursday, May 14 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association in Dharamshala.

In a surprising turn of events, Jasprit Bumrah is leading MI for the first time in his IPL career, as Hardik Pandya is not available because of back spasms. However, Suryakumar Yadav led the side in the previous clash, but he is also not available for today's game because of personal reasons.

Jasprit Bumrah opens up leading MI for the first time

Meanwhile, after winning the toss Bumrah chose to bowl. While opening up on the feeling of leading the MI side for the first time in his life, the star pacer jokingly said that it is hard to believe that he became the Test skipper before becoming an IPL captain.

"I didn't think that I'll be a Test captain before I'll captain Mumbai Indians. But this is a fun place to be. You look after everyone and you want to contribute in whatever way possible. So, I like responsibility. This is a new challenge. I'll look to have fun," said Jasprit Bumrah at the toss.

 

 

It will be interesting to see how Jasprit Bumrah performs as a captain against Punjab Kings.
