Gujarat Titans (GT) notched a nervy one-run win over Delhi Capitals (DC) in a nail-biting last-ball IPL 2026 thriller at the Arun Jaitley stadium on April 8. With this GT clinched their first win of the IPL 2026 season by successfully defending a total of 210/4 against DC. The match came down to the wire, where GT had to score 13 runs off the last over. However DC fell agonisingly short by just one run as they finished on 209/8 despite David Miller's heroic 20-ball 41. Even KL Rahul's 52-ball 92 wasn't enough for DC to get past 210-run mark.
GT down DC by 1 run in last-ball thriller
The victory was sealed by Prasidh Krishna, who held his nerve to deliver a dot ball on the final delivery of the match to seal the deal for GT. While Miller’s valiant effort kept Delhi in the hunt until the very end, it was Rashid Khan’s exceptional spell of 3/17 that proved to be the difference-maker, stifling the DC chase and securing the narrowest of margins for the Titans.

The foundations of the massive total were solidified by a commanding 104-run partnership for the third wicket between Gill and Washington Sundar. Gill anchored the innings with a classy 70 off 45 deliveries, finding the fence four times and clearing it five times before eventually being caught off Lungi Ngidi’s bowling. Sundar provided excellent support from the other end, contributing a brisk 55 off 32 balls. Though he lost his wicket while attempting to accelerate in the death overs, his effort ensured the Titans remained on course for a high score. Late cameos from Glenn Phillips and Rahul Tewatia added the finishing touches, as they exploited the final two overs to push the tally past the 200-run mark.
For the Delhi Capitals, Mukesh Kumar was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Ngidi and Kuldeep claimed one apiece. The Capitals now face a steep chase of 211 runs to maintain their unbeaten streak in the tournament. Conversely, the Gujarat Titans, who have struggled in the early stages of the season, have a prime opportunity to defend this substantial total and secure their first victory of the 2026 campaign.
David Miller, KL Rahul's exploits in vain
Miller nearly pulled off a miraculous chase for DC, unleashing a fierce assault in the penultimate over. Targeting Mohammed Siraj, the South African veteran capitalized on a wide-heavy over to smash two sixes and a boundary, bringing the equation down to the wire. Although Miller was off-strike to start the final over, a boundary from Vipraj Nigam and a subsequent wicket set the stage for a tense finish. With eight runs required off the final three deliveries, Miller hammered Prasidh Krishna over long-off for a massive six, placing Delhi on the doorstep of victory.
The drama intensified in the final moments as the scoring suddenly dried up. After the massive six, Miller opted to refuse a single on the penultimate ball to keep the strike, but he subsequently missed a pull shot on the final delivery. Despite a desperate sprint for a bye, Kuldeep Yadav was unable to reach the striker’s end in time. The tension remained high during a lengthy review for a potential waist-high no-ball, but the delivery was ultimately ruled legal, leaving Delhi just one run short of their target.
Earlier in the innings, KL Rahul anchored the chase with a brilliant display of power hitting, falling just eight runs shy of the season's first century. His knock, featuring 11 fours and four sixes, marked a significant return to form after a disappointing start to the 2026 campaign. Having previously struggled with a golden duck against the Lucknow Super Giants and a solitary run against the Mumbai Indians, Rahul’s aggressive innings finally provided the top-order spark that the Capitals had been lacking in their opening fixtures.
While the Capitals' middle order had bailed them out in previous wins, they found no such relief against a clinical Rashid Khan. The Afghan leg-spinner dismantled the momentum by dismissing Nitish Rana late in the 10th over before immediately removing the in-form Sameer Rizvi for a golden duck. This double-strike proved costly for Delhi, as it forced them to rely heavily on the lower order and set the stage for the heartbreaking final-over finish.
