Chennai Super Kings finally secured their first win in the IPL 2026 by defeating Delhi Capitals by 23 runs on Saturday, April 11 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Sanju Samson surprised everyone with a stellar knock of 115 off 56 deliveries, which led to win the Player of the Match award. But Ravichandran Ashwin lauded the bowling efforts from Jamie Overton (4/18) and Anshul Kamboj (3/35).

On his official YouTube Channel, Ashwin said that Jamie Overton deserved the Player-of-the-Match award instead of Sanju Samson for his valuable contributions with the ball.

"Sanju was incredible with the bat and the reason CSK got to the massive total, but for me, the player of the game was Jamie Overton," said Ashwin.

 

 

Ashiwn further added saying that CSK have found an all-round English player after a long time.

Jamie Overton's performance in IPL 2026

In three games, the English all-rounder has impressed everyone with his performances, scoring 80 runs at a strike rate of 153.85 and five wickets with the ball at an economy rate of 9.25 for the Chennai-based franchise.

Chennai Super Kings' power-packed performance vs DC

Batting first, Sanju Samson (115 off 56) and Ayush Mhatre (56 off 39) powered Chennai Super Kings to reach 212/2 against Delhi Capitals. In the second innings, Jamie Overton (4/18) and Anshul Kamboj (3/35) shone with the bowl as DC crumbled to 189/10, losing the game by 23 runs.

Next challenge for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026

After claiming their first win, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side will lock horns with Ajinkya Rahane's Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday, April 14. The game will be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. It will be interesting to see if CSK can repeat the same attacking mindset against the Kolkata-based franchise.
