Suryansh Shedge opens up on Shreyas Iyer’s influence

Speaking during a roundtable interaction, Shedge explained how Shreyas Iyer advised him to avoid overthinking and trust his natural game during the tournament.

The youngster revealed that the PBKS skipper backed him during an internal practice game before the IPL, which significantly helped him stay calm and focused when opportunities eventually arrived.

“Shreyas bhai told me during an internal match before the IPL that I was batting well and not to overthink. If I had thought about things not in my control, I wouldn't have been able to perform in that situation,” Shedge said.

The all-rounder also acknowledged the role played by Ricky Ponting, adding that regular interactions with the experienced coach and captain helped him focus on preparation, staying present, and trusting his instincts.

Their guidance appears to have paid off, with Shedge emerging as one of Punjab Kings’ promising performers in limited opportunities so far this season.

The young all-rounder has scored 85 runs so far, including a half-century, while averaging an impressive 42.5.

What has stood out even more is his aggressive intent at the crease, with the 23-year-old maintaining a remarkable strike rate of 177 during the tournament.

His performances have added valuable depth to the Punjab Kings middle order, while also strengthening the team’s batting unit heading into the crucial phase of the competition.

With the backing of senior figures like Shreyas Iyer and Ricky Ponting, Shedge now looks set to become an important part of Punjab Kings’ plans moving forward.
