Suryakumar Yadav finally broke his silence on the rumours surrounding a possible wrist injury after enduring a difficult Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 campaign with the Mumbai Indians (MI).
The India T20I captain had come into IPL 2026 after a sensational 2025 season where he scored over 700 runs.
With several rumours doing the rounds on social media regarding a possible wrist injury affecting his form, Suryakumar decided to clear the air ahead of MI's clash against RR.
Suryakumar Yadav dismisses wrist injury rumours
The Mumbai Indians batter firmly denied suffering from any wrist issue and even questioned the people spreading such claims.
Suryakumar explained that if he actually had a wrist injury, he would not have been able to execute his trademark flick shots and wrist-heavy stroke play during practice sessions and matches.
"First of all, I'd like to clear the air a little bit. The people talking about a wrist injury are either pure physios or people who don't understand cricket," Suryakumar Yadav said.
"Because if I really had a wrist injury or such a problem, then the shots I've been playing in practice and in matches, especially my flick shots, which are completely wrist-based and depend on hand-eye coordination, I wouldn't have been able to play those shots."
The star batter further added that he does not focus too much on such external chatter and termed these things as "uncontrollable factors."
"But I don't want to say much about that because it's not in my control. These are all uncontrollable factors, and I don't pay too much attention to them," he added.
Suryakumar reflects on poor IPL 2026 campaign with MI
Suryakumar’s poor run with the bat mirrored MI's disastrous IPL 2026 campaign.
Despite having superstar names like Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar himself, the MI finished ninth on the points table with only four wins in 14 matches.
However, Suryakumar insisted that he never stopped working hard despite the poor returns.
The Indian batter reminded everyone about his successful outings earlier this year, including a brilliant series against the New Zealand national cricket team and India’s victorious ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign.
"As you said, I've worked hard throughout the season. I worked hard at the start of the year as well. In the New Zealand series, I won the Player of the Series award. Then I had a good World Cup, at least according to me. Then came the IPL. I didn't score runs in the IPL, but I never stopped working hard," he said.
Suryakumar Yadav signed off the IPL season with a fighting 60 off 42 balls against Rajasthan Royals and maintained that success eventually follows hard work.
"I try to focus on what is in my hands. At the end of the day, performance is never guaranteed. What is in your control is hard work. So I keep working hard and try to put my best foot forward," he added.
Things did not go according to plan this year as he could manage 270 runs in 13 matches with just two half-centuries.
