Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)’s struggles in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 deepened as they slumped to their sixth consecutive defeat, going down to Mumbai Indians (MI) in a high-scoring encounter. Captain Rishabh Pant cut a frustrated figure after the game, admitting his side fell short despite a strong batting effort.

Pant admits LSG fell short, calls for ‘good luck’ after defeat

Speaking in the post-match presentation, Pant reflected on the game and conceded that his side left runs on the table despite a flying start.

"(a few runs short?) Definitely, the way we started, I think we should have gotten more runs. But definitely some good signs. Can't say that. Definitely the boys played freely, but in the end, I think they bowled well because they are used to these conditions, for sure. See, definitely, we were short 10-15 runs because it was a 220-230 wicket for sure. And the way we started, we had that edge over them. But at the same time, in a wicket like this, you can't blame bowlers all the time. They've been doing a fantastic job for us. So definitely can't say much to them, for sure. (what does the team need?) I think we need some good luck, man. That's the only thing I'm going to say. (how to find the luck?) Yeah, I think a lot of blessing is going to work around it. And it's going to take some more effort from us, for sure."

Rishabh Pant acknowledged that while the batting unit showed intent and freedom, MI’s execution, particularly in the death overs, proved decisive. He also backed his bowlers, refusing to single them out despite another tough outing.

LSG’s 228 goes in vain as MI dominate chase

LSG posted a formidable total of 228, powered by explosive knocks from Mitchell Marsh (44 off 25) and Nicholas Pooran (63 off 21), while Aiden Markram (31 off 25) and Himmat Singh (40 off 31) provided stability through the middle overs.

The innings began on a strong note, with LSG’s top order capitalizing on favorable conditions and maintaining a high scoring rate throughout. However, they couldn’t fully capitalize in the death overs, a phase Pant later highlighted as crucial.

Despite the imposing target, Mumbai Indians responded with authority. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton launched a blistering opening stand of 143 runs in just 10.5 overs, putting LSG immediately on the back foot before Rickelton fell to Mohsin Khan.

While LSG’s batting clicked, their usually reliable bowling attack—featuring Mohammad Shami, Prince Yadav, and others—failed to deliver under pressure. MI eventually chased down the target in commanding fashion, sealing yet another defeat for Rishabh Pant’s side.

With momentum slipping and results not going their way, LSG now face an uphill battle to revive their campaign.
