LSG have disclosed Wanindu Hasaranga's replacement for remainder of IPL 2026

South African all-rounder George Linde has replaced Hasaranga in LSG's squad

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have finally found Wanindu Hasaranga's replacement for the remainder of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The franchise has officially named South African all-rounder George Linde as the replacement for the Sri Lankan star. Hasaranga, who was a key acquisition at the auction for INR 2 crore, was forced to withdraw from the tournament after sustaining a hamstring injury during Sri Lanka’s opening match of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

George Linde replaces Wanindu Hasaranga in LSG's squad

In Linde, LSG gains a versatile left-handed batting all-rounder and a disciplined slow left-arm orthodox bowler. His international resume includes representing the Proteas in three Tests, four ODIs, and 37 T20Is. Throughout his tenure in the T20I circuit, he has contributed 403 runs and claimed 35 wickets. Beyond the international stage, Linde brings a wealth of experience with a total of 250 T20 appearances, offering significant tactical depth and stability to the squad's middle order and bowling department.

This signing marks Linde's inaugural stint in the IPL, as he prepares to join the team at his reserve price of Rs 1 crore.

"We are preparing for the fact that he isn't going to be able to join us. We are looking at replacements, that should be announced in 24-48 hours,” LSG's Director of Cricket Tom Moody has earlier told broadcasters during his team's clash against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 9.

George Linde's track record

Linde enters the IPL on the heels of a bilateral T20 series against New Zealand last month. While his statistical output was modest, claiming just one wicket across four innings, the 34-year-old brings a wealth of high-level experience to the Lucknow camp. A regular fixture in the Proteas setup, Linde was a member of the South African squad for the recently concluded 2026 Men's T20 World Cup and has built a global reputation through his stints in major franchise leagues, including the SA20, The Hundred, Major League Cricket, and the PSL.

Across his extensive career, the left-arm spinner has proven to be a consistent performer in the shortest format, taking 218 wickets in 250 T20 appearances. His career economy rate of 7.42 highlights his ability to maintain control and apply pressure in the middle overs. Joining the Rishabh Pant-led side at his base price of ₹1 crore, Linde offers a tactical edge for a team looking to bolster its spin-bowling all-rounder stocks. The timing of his arrival is critical as LSG prepare for their next challenge against the Gujarat Titans.
