Story Highlights:

Mohammed Shami has reportedly become DC and LSG's top target

Shami has spent just 1 IPL season with the Sunrisers Hyderabad

Both the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC) are looking to sign Sunrisers Hyderbad's (SRH) Mohammed Shami for an all-cash deal. According to a report by Cricbuzz, SRH are more than likely to trade Shami with one of the two franchises rather than letting him enter the auction pool. The 35-year-old was signed by the Hyderabad-based franchise for a whopping fee of INR 10 crore in the IPL 2025 auction, but may very well be on his way out after just one season.

Shami's dismal IPL 2025 campaign

Shami wasn't able to deliver for the team throughout the campaign and only picked up six scalps in the nine games that he played. He also gave away quite a bit of runs in the games he played, maintaining an expensive economy-rate of 11.23. While Shami has previously played four seasons for the Delhi-based franchise, he has never been a part of LSG in his IPL career.

His performance in the IPL reached its peak during the 2022 and 2023 season when he featured for the Gujarat Titans. He clinched 20 and 28 wickets in the two seasons respectively and played a key role in the franchise becoming champions in 2022. Shami's career has been on a downward spiral ever since the 2023 ODI World Cup as he has faced a lot of fitness issues. This saw him losing his place in the Indian squad for every format.

Shami shines in Ranji Trophy

Meanwhile, the veteran pacer has proven to be quite impressive in the ongoing Ranji Trophy campaign, picking up 15 scalps in three games for Bengal. However, despite this, Shami wasn't picked in India's squad for the upcoming assignment against South Africa that will consist of two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is.

Despite Shami's repeated snub from Indian team, Bengal head coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla and Cricket Association of Bengal's (CAB) President Sourav Ganguly have expressed confidence in him to make a return to the side and deliver for them once again just like he has done in the past.
