The Rajasthan Royals' IPL 2025 campaign has started off slowly. They defeated the Chennai Super Kings in their most recent game to get back on track after losing their opening two games against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders. But during their first three games, they have been lacking one key player. Sanju Samson was unable to serve as captain; he could only play as a batter. In his absence, the team was captained by Riyan Parag. However, Samson can now resume his role as the captain, which is huge news for the franchise.

Samson to resume RR captaincy

As per the Times of India report, the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru has given Sanju Samson permission to store wickets. He will therefore be returning to his captaincy and wicketkeeping responsibilities for the Rajasthan Royals starting with their upcoming match. Samson will thus return as RR captain for their IPL 2025 encounter against the Punjab Kings on Saturday, April 5, in Mullanpur.

"Yes, he has cleared the final fitness tests at NCA," a source close to the proceedings told TOI.

Sanju Samson underwent surgery after suffering a finger injury. He was not permitted to keep wickets while playing in the first three games. He therefore only played himself as a batter and impact player. Under such circumstances, the team's captaincy had to be put on Riyan Parag.

In his first three games, Sanju Samson has performed admirably at bat. He has amassed 99 runs overall, including a scorching 66 against SRH in the opening game. The Royals are presently in ninth place in the points table with two points from their first three games.
