Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest to smash a century in T20 history

The 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the talk of the town after producing a knock which doesn't justify his age. A towering knock at such tender age is what makes his century special by all means. The date, April 28, 2025 will be remembered for ages when the wonderkid scripted history with his breathtaking knock in Rajasthan Royals' winning cause against Gujarat Titans in their IPL 2025 clash. But the knock was manifested much before the match when the batting prodigy from Bihar made a phone call to his coach Manish Ojha in the morning of the RR versus GT match and cleared his intentions about his innings.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi's phone call with coach ignited his historic centurion knock

Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name in cricketing history by smashing the second-fastest century ever recorded in the Indian Premier League. The talented Rajasthan Royals batsman from Bihar reached the coveted hundred mark in a mere 35 balls, spearheading Rajasthan's successful chase of 210 runs against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Vaibhav's remarkable feat also established a new world record, as he became the youngest male cricketer to score a century in T20 cricket. In doing so, he surpassed the previous record held by former Maharashtra batsman Vijay Hari Zol, who had achieved the milestone in 2013 at the age of 18.

After bringing his fifty in 17 balls, Vaibhav required just another 18 balls to complete his historic hundred. His explosive innings of 101 runs off 38 balls played an instrumental role in ending the Rajasthan Royals' five-match losing streak as they successfully chased down the massive target of 210 runs in just 15.5 overs.

After the match, Suryavanshi's coach Manish Ojha, during a conversation with TOI, revealed that the RR's batting sensation called him in the morning of the match and said," Sir, aaj mai marunga" (Sir, today I will smash the bowlers)".

"Maarna, par wicket mat de dena. Itminaan se khelna, Yashasvi se baat karte rehna [Hit (the ball), but don't lose your wicket. Play calmly, keep talking to Yashasvi]," the coach then advised Suryavanshi.

Suryavanshi's towering knock eventually came to an end in the 12th over when he was dismissed after scoring a spellbinding 38-ball 101. However, by then, he had already inflicted substantial damage on the GT's bowling attack, forging a 166-run partnership for the opening wicket, the highest ever opening stand in RR's IPL history. In a heartwarming display of sportsmanship, every player from the Gujarat Titans team approached Suryavanshi to congratulate him as he walked back to the pavilion following his dismissal. Even RR's head coach Rahul Dravid, who was seated in a wheelchair in the dugout, stood up to give the young prodigy a well-deserved standing ovation.
