Subramaniam Badrinath calls Dewald Brevis a "massive letdown" for CSK in IPL 2026.

CSK finished seventh in the points table with six wins from 14 matches.

It would be fair to say the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a disastrous campaign in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, as the five-time champions faced lack of consistent performance which led to a bad finish in the tournament. The Yellow Army had a disappointing start to the competition with a hattrick of losses, before witnessing some mid-season form.

Still after making a mini-comeback, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side failed to bank on the half-chances to secure a playoff berth.

Reacting on the same, former CSK player Subramaniam Badrinath blamed Dewald Brevis' lack of form, who was trusted a lot by the franchise. The South-African batter failed to perform for the Chennai-based franchise. Dewald was supposed to provide stability in the middle order but unfortunately things could not materialize.

On his official YouTube Channel, Badrinath admitted that Dewald Brevis was a big letdown for CSK in the ongoing season, but also wondered if was being sent to bat at an unusual position.

"Dewald Brevis was a massive letdown this season. CSK trusted him a lot. But the question is, though he was in bad form, was he played at the correct position? The lack of clarity over MS Dhoni was another negative," said Badrinath.

How Dewald Brevis has fared for CSK in IPL 2026?

The right-handed batter missed a few matches because of an injury, after coming back, Dewald played 11 games and managed to amass only 151 runs at an average of 18.88 with a strike rate of 127.97. He registered his highest score of 44 off 27 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The Chennai-based franchise finished seventh in the table with 12 points in hand after playing 14 matches (six wins and eight losses) at a net run rate of -0.345. It will be interesting to see if CSK can make a strong comeback in the next year's edition.
