Rajasthan Royals (RR) youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again lit up the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 with another breathtaking knock as the teenage sensation smashed a blistering 96 off just 47 deliveries in the high-pressure Qualifier 2 clash.

While the youngster missed another well-deserved century by a whisker, he still managed to script history by breaking one of Andre Russell’s iconic IPL records.

The fearless left-hander continued his dream IPL 2026 campaign with another sensational innings that helped RR post a massive total in the knockout clash.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi becomes fastest batter to 1000 IPL runs

After winning the toss, Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag elected to bat first. However, RR suffered an early setback as opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been struggling for form lately, endured another disappointing outing and departed cheaply.

But Sooryavanshi once again showed maturity beyond his age. Unlike his usual ultra-aggressive approach, the youngster played a more sensible innings initially and held one end firmly as wickets kept falling around him.

As the innings progressed, he switched gears effortlessly and completely dismantled the opposition bowling attack with his fearless strokeplay.

Just when he looked set for another century, Sooryavanshi once again suffered heartbreak in identical fashion to his previous dismissal against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Eliminator.

Attempting an upper cut towards third man, he got caught in the deep on 96 after having fallen for 97 in the previous game — remarkably, by the same spot in both matches. Despite missing out on the hundred, the youngster still achieved a historic milestone.

During his stunning innings, Sooryavanshi crossed the 1000-run mark in IPL cricket and became the fastest player in tournament history to achieve the feat in terms of balls faced.

Sooryavanshi tightens grip on Orange Cap race

With this innings, Sooryavanshi further strengthened his hold on the Orange Cap race in IPL 2026. The RR opener has now scored 776 runs in 16 matches at a sensational average of 48.50 and an unbelievable strike rate of 237.30.

He has also registered five half-centuries and one century during the season and currently sits at the top of the run-scoring charts. The youngster also became the first uncapped player in IPL history to cross the 600-run mark in a single season.

Apart from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s heroics, Ravindra Jadeja contributed a steady 45 off 35 balls while Donovan Ferreira played a crucial cameo of 38 off just 11 deliveries.Rajasthan Royals eventually posted a competitive total of 214 runs.

The stakes remain extremely high in the contest as the winner of the match will join Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2026 final scheduled to be played on May 31 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
