Shreyas Iyer's Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured another win in IPL 2026 after defeating Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 54 runs on Sunday, April a19t the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.
Ricky Ponting gives stern look to Shashank Singh
Though the result went in PBKS' favour, Shashank Singh would be feeling disappointed with fielding performance in the second innings, dropping multiple catches. He initially dropped Nicholas Pooran after only managing a minor contact as the ball dropped.

Later in the 18th over, he misjudged Aiden Markram's shot, allowing the ball to sail over for a six, which led to an angry reaction from head coach Ricky Ponting in the dugout. But things got worse in the penultimate over, dropping Mukul Choudhary despite getting both hands to the ball. Meanwhile, skipper Shreyas Iyer had a sarcastic smile at Shashank's tough day in the field, as Ponting maintained a serious look.
However, tensions eased after PBKS secured a massive 54-run win over LSG, as Ponting and Shashank were seen sharing a warm moment, indicating a clear shift in their dynamic.
Back-to-back defeats for LSG
Despite a reasonably strong start that yielded 61 runs during the Powerplay, LSG were never truly in contention to chase down the massive target. They struggled to keep up with the required run rate, ultimately finishing their innings at 200 for five, a score that failed to match the sheer dominance displayed by their opponents earlier in the match.
Individual contributions from skipper Rishabh Pant, who scored 43 off 23 balls, and Mitchell Marsh, who added 40 off 28, were simply insufficient. While both players showed positive intent, their efforts paled in comparison to the spectacular six-hitting exhibition previously put on by Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly, which had set the tone for the Punjab Kings' victory.
Vyshak Vijaykumar proved to be the standout bowler, delivering a brilliant four-over spell that cost just 30 runs. By expertly mixing his pace and utilizing deceptive variations, he successfully stifled both Marsh and Pant, effectively halting any momentum they hoped to build. Once those key wickets fell, closing out the match became a formality for Shreyas Iyer's side.
