Out-of-favour Team India batter Prithvi Shaw will continue to represent Northamptonshire in the 2024 County season, the club has confirmed. Shaw, who was in sensational touch with the bat in England's One-Day Cup competition, saw his campaign come to an excruciating end with Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) injury. After inking another deal with the Northhamptonshire, Shaw was ecstatic and excited to represent the club for one more season.
"I'm so excited to be heading back to Northamptonshire next summer. Even though it was over quickly I really enjoyed my time there, it's a great club to be a part of and I felt so welcome by everyone immediately. I can't wait to get back over. My goal is always to help win games for the team and it was so disappointing to get injured and have to leave early this time," said Shaw.
Shaw showcased his splendid form by racking up an unbeaten 125 off just 76 balls, adorning his innings with 15 boundaries and a commendable seven sixes. This performance helped Northants effortlessly chase down the 198-run target set by Durham on August 13.
It's also important to highlight that just a few days earlier, on August 9, the dynamic Mumbai batsman delivered a staggering 244 off 153 balls, enriched with 28 fours and 11 sixes. This remarkable innings paved the way for Northamptonshire's dominant victory over Somerset by 87 runs.
After Shaw made his mark in the competition, he revealed that there were other teams who reached out to him for a deal but he wanted to remain with Northamptonshire in order to finish the unfinished business.
"I had a few teams contacting me after the tournament wanting to talk about playing for them next year, but I feel like I still have more to achieve with Northamptonshire. They gave me the opportunity this year and I'm very happy to be coming back," Shaw added.
Shaw, who has represented India in all three formats of the game, last donned the Indian jersey during a T20I against Sri Lanka in 2021.
