Team India failed to get a good start in 2026 as they lost the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, but the Suryakumar Yadav-led side made a flying start in the T20 series against the same opponent. The Men in Blue have taken a 2-0 lead by winning the first two matches. The biggest boost came in the second T20I, where Suryakumar returned to form with a brilliant, unbeaten 82-run innings.

"As I’ve said before, I was batting well in the nets. Over the past two to three weeks, I spent more time at home, relaxed, and spent time with my family and friends. I also had some really good practice sessions. Everything together has helped me, and I’m really enjoying being back in form" said Suryakumar Yadav in post match presentation.
Suryakumar Yadav's lean patch
Suryakumar Yadav was going through a lean patch after taking on captaincy duties from Rohit Sharma in 2024. He managed to score 218 runs in 21 matches at an average of 13.62. But in 2026, he made a sensational comeback. In his very first innings of the T20 series against New Zealand, he smashed an unbeaten 82 off 37 balls, including nine fours and four sixes. Now, he’ll be looking to carry this form forward, especially with the T20 World Cup 2026 coming up.
