Multan Sultans opener Usman Khan has smashed the record for the fastest century scored in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which was earlier set by South African batter Rilee Rossouw, just a day before. Playing against his former team the Quetta Gladiators, Usman started very slow but then took the game to the opponents, smashing 52 runs against Qais Ahmad and reaching his ton in just 36 balls.

The 27-year-old opening batter, who scored the second T20 century of his career, smashed the record that was made the night before by his batting teammate and South African veteran Rossouw.

Playing against Babar Azam's Peshawar Zalmi on March 11, Rossouw scored 121 runs off 51 balls and completed his century off just 43 balls.

But Usman got to the landmark by 36 balls courtesy of some massive hitting that took the Gladiator bowlers to the cleaners.Β

The Pakistan opener's innings included 12 fours and 9 sixes, with Usman taking just 22 balls to reach his half-century. This was the beginning of the onslaught by Usman, who went on to hit Qais for 27 runs in the same over.Β

He started and ended the next over, bowled by Mohammad Nawaz, with a six, and once again decided to rip the Afghani Qais apart in his second over of the match.

Usman hit the batter 6, 4, 6, 4, 6, taking it slow in the final ball to complete a single.Β

The Pakistani cricketer hit the spinners 6, 4, 6, 4, 6, taking it slow in the final ball to complete a single. With the second four of the over, the opener created history by smashing a 36-ball century, his first of the tournament and a brilliant comeback after his duck in the only other appearance of the season against the Lahore Qalanders back on February 13.

He eventually lost his wicket to the bowling of Nawaz. It was some quick wicket-keeping by Umar Akmal, who stumped the in-form batter. The score then read 157/1 as Qais Ahmad went on to finish his four overs with 77 runs, the most conceded by a bowler in this tournament. The previous owner of this unwanted record was Shahid Afridi, who gave away 67 runs against Islamabad United in 2022.
