Earlier, Ajinkya Rahane has pulled out of remaining season

Mumbai's Ranji Trophy campaign has been dealt a massive blow as they prepare for the second half of the season without two of their marquee players. Former captain Ajinkya Rahane and prolific India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal will both be unavailable for the remainder of the tournament, which is set to resume on January 22. Their absence leaves a substantial void in the batting lineup just as the competition intensifies.

The team's immediate challenge begins with an away fixture against Hyderabad, scheduled to take place from January 22 to January 25. Following this trip, Mumbai will return to their home turf to face Delhi starting January 29. This final league round match will be critical for their standings, though they will have to navigate these high-stakes encounters without the experience and firepower of their two star international cricketers.

“Both Rahane and Jaiswal are not available for the remaining two matches of the Ranji Trophy season. Rahane will not be available due to personal reasons,” a senior MCA official told PTI.

Ajinkya Rahane pulled out of remaining season

Rahane, the 37-year-old veteran who stepped down from the Mumbai captaincy prior to the 2025-26 season, has had a limited presence in the current domestic circuit. His last appearance in the Ranji Trophy dates back to November 2025, during a home fixture against Himachal Pradesh. While he represented Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament, he was notably absent from the team’s lineup during the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Mumbai’s campaign in the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy recently concluded in disappointment, ending with a 55-run defeat at the hands of Karnataka in the quarterfinals. Following that exit and the departure of key senior players, the team is now looking toward younger talent to fill the gaps in the roster for the upcoming red-ball matches.

In preparation for the next round of the Ranji Trophy, Suved Parkar and Sairaj Patil have been brought into the Mumbai squad. While the association has confirmed these additions, fans and analysts are still waiting for the official release of the final, comprehensive squad list to see how the team will balance its lineup in Rahane's absence.
