'Prasidh, don't use your brains, just bowl where...': KL Rahul left frustrated as Krishna doesn't follow captain's advice in Raipur ODI; watch video
India pacer Prasidh Krishna and stand-in captain KL Rahul during 2nd ODI against South Africa.

Story Highlights:

Prasidh Krishna conceded runs at over 10 runs per over in 2nd ODI vs South Africa.

KL Rahul told Krishna to bowl according to the plan.

India pacer Prasidh Krishna had a forgettable outing in the Raipur ODI as South Africa chased down the target of 359 with four balls to spare. Krishna got the wickets of Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma and Matthew Breetzke but his line and length was wayward. At times, not bowling as per the fielding set by stand-in skipper KL Rahul led to him leaking boundaries. At one point, Rahul lost his cool and asked Krishna to bowl where he has asked him to instead of using his brain. The instructions from the wicketkeeper to the pacer in Kannnada language were heard on stump mic.

"Prasidh, nin thale odsbeda, helid haaku. Helidini en haakbeku anta adana haaku, talegella beda eega (Prasidh, don't use your brains, just bowl where I have told you to. I have told you what to bowl, do that, don't bowl to the head right now)," Rahul said.

But, Krishna went off the plan again and Rahul did not hold back from reminding him.

"Prasidh, heli bandidini! Talege haaktidiyalla maga (Prasidh, I have just told you, still you are bowling at the head bro)," Rahul said in-between deliveries.

Krishna bowled 8.2 overs and conceded 85 runs. The next most expensive bowler was wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav who conceded 78 runs from his full quota of 10 overs.

In the previous ODI, he bowled 7.2 overs, conceded 48 runs and bagged the wicket of Corbin Bosch.

How many times Krishna has bowled 10 overs in an ODI?

The last time Krishna completed his full quota of 10 overs in an ODI was in 2022 when he conceded 62 runs and remained wicketless against West Inides. Krishna has played 20 ODIs and there have been only three instances where he has bowled 10 overs. The last time he took more than two wickets in an ODI was against Zimbabwe in 2022.

Another chance for Krishna?

In the current ODI squad, India don’t have another frontline pacer in the lineup. Ahead of the series decider in Visakhapatnam on December 6, India’s only pace option the squad is Nitish Kumar Reddy. If Reddy plays the next ODI, it will mean increased workload on spinners. While Kuldeep bowled 10 overs, Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja bowled four and seven overs respectively in the second ODI as it was difficult to grip the ball due to heavy dew.
