Gill to open, Samson to be flexible

Suryakumar had suffered a neck injury that ruled him out of second Test and the ODI series. He was named in the T20I squad but his participation was subject to fitness.

The captain confirmed that Gill will open alongside Abhishek Sharma while Sanju Samson can bat anywhere in the batting lineup.

“It was Shubman who started in the series against Sri Lanka after that we gave chances to Sanju up in the order. He is a flexible player, can bat anywhere. We don't plan to change a lot in our playing XI in the next 2 series. We won't be changing or trying too many things. We will continue with it,” Suryakumar said.

“Hardik Pandya opens up a lot of options and combinations. His experience is invaluable. He has done well in major tournaments. His presence will give a good balance to the side,” said the 35-year-old.
