Baroda wicketkeeper-batter Amit Passi etched his name on T20 record books on his debut in the format. The wicketkeeper-batter scored a 55-ball 114 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 against Services and equalled decade old record of highest score on T20 debut.
Passi now shares the record with Pakistan's Bilal Asif. For Stallions, he had scored 114 on T20 debut against Falcons in 2015. In T20Is, the record belongs to Canada's Matthew Spoors who scored 112 against Philippines.
Among full-member teams, the record belongs to former Australia captain Ricky Ponting who scored an unbeaten 98 against New Zealand. It was also the first ever T20I.
Overall, Passi is the 10th batter to score a century on his T20 debut. In SMAT, the previous record belonged to Chandigarh's Shivam Bhambri who scored 106 against Himachal Pradesh in 2019 edition.
Passi is only the third wicketkeeper-batter to score a century on T20 debut. Pakistan's Moin Khan did it first in 2005 for Dolphins against Lahore Lions, scoring 112. In 2019, Serbia's Leslie Dunbar did it against Bulgaria with an unbetaen 104.
Passi gets Baroda to big total
Passi did the bulk of the scoring during his stay at the crease while other batters could not convert starts. He hit nine sixes and 10 fours in his 114-run knock. He helped his team post a total of 220/5 on the board. His wicket fell in the 18th over of the innings. Abhishek Tiwari prevented him from breaking the world record.
Passi replaced the wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma in the side. Jitesh has joined Team India camp for the five-T20I series at home against South Africa. Hardik Pandya has joined the T20I side as well. Meanwhile, Krunal Pandya did not play the last group stage match of the SMAT 2025 season as Vishnu Solanki led the team. The T20I series will begin on December 9 at Cuttack's Barabati Stadium.
