Derbyshire’s Zak Chappell was all set to gift himself a famous win at England’s Domestic One-Day 2025 clash. He was one run away from a quickfire fifty, one run away from leading Derbyshire to a one-wicket win off the last ball of the run chase against Leicestershire. He was cautious as well, opting for a quick single to get over the line but it led to a dramatic tie. Unfortunately for Chappell, he lost control of his bat which fell on the ground. Then, he tripped and fell. The wicketkeeper was quick to throw the ball to the non-striker’s end and the game ended in a tie.
As Chappell got out, he did not have any option but to shake the bowler Tom Scriven’s hand. On the other hand, Leicestershire’s Scriven held his nerves to earn his team a tie. In the last over, he needed to defend 13 runs. 18-year-old Alex Green had set it up for him nicely by striking twice in the penultimate over. On the first three balls, Scriven took a beating. Chappell started with a six. Then, he ran a couple of runs between the wickets. The third ball went for a boundary as well. Scriven faltered with his line and bowled a wide. But, he bowled three consecutive dot deliveries to tie the game.
The 29-year-old Chappell got out for 49 off 37 deliveries, featuring four fours and two sixes. Earlier, opener Harry Came scored 67 runs from 72 balls. Matthew Montogmery (55-ball 47) and Anuj Dal (34-ball 45) started well too but missed their respectively half-centuries. Teenager Green won the 'Player of the match' for his third five-wicket haul in five games.

No milestone for batters
It was not a day of milestones for batters. Leicestershire's opener Rishi Patel (94 off 119 balls) and Lewis Hill (run-a-ball 95) were dismissed in 90s as well. Skipper Peter Handscomb and wicketkeeper-batter Ben Cox contributed with quickfire 35-run knocks to help their side post 312/5.
Second tied game of the season
This was the 10th tie in England's domestic One-Day Cup history since 2014. Also, this is the second tied match of the season. On August 7, Nottinghamshire and Worcestershire's rain-affected game ended in a tie.
