Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored a century from just 58 balls

Suryavanshi hit 14 fours and 4 sixes in his 104-run knock

13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history on October 1 with fastest century for India in Under-19 Tests. Against Australia Under-19, Suryavanshi reached the three figures in just 58 balls on Day 2 of the unofficial Test (Four-Day game).

Suryavanshi missed out on breaking former England all-rounder Moeen Ali’s record for fastest century in Under-19 Tests. Ali scored a century from just 56 deliveries in 2005 at the Under-19 level.

At the end of Day 1's play, Suryavanshi was batting on 81 off 47 balls and the hosts were 103 for no loss from 14 overs. After reaching his century, he was run out by Christian Howe. The opener scored 104 runs from 62 balls. His record-breaking knock was laced with 14 fours and four sixes.

Earlier, India restricted Australia for 293. Opener Riley Kingsell (53) and Aidan O'Connor (61) scored half-centuries whereas Howe missed the mark by just two runs. Samarth Nagaraj and Mohamed Enaan bagged three wickets each.

Suryavanshi’s Ranji record and numbers so far

Last year, a 12-year-old Suryavanshi became the youngest debutant in the history of Ranji Trophy. The Bihar batter broke the record held by legendary Indian players Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh. He has played two first-class matches for Bihar and scored 31 runs from four innings. He made his debut against Mumbai at home. In the second game against Chattisgarh, he registered two ducks.

Nominal lead for India despite openers' stellar knocks

Opener Vihaan Malhotra played the anchor knock whereas Nitya Pandya and KP Karthikeya were dismissed cheaply. Malhotra missed out on scoring a century. He scored 76 runs from 108 balls including 13 fours and a six. Skipper Soham Patwardhan (33), wicketkeeper-batter Abhigyan Kundu (32) and Nikhil Kumar (20) got starts but could not conver them into big scores. Indian-origin Australian leggie claimed four wickets helped the visitors bowl out India for 296. The hosts managed to take a lead of mere three runs.
