Curtains will be raised on Monday (December 13) as the National Stadium in Karachi will host the first of the three T20Is between West Indies and Pakistan. Shai Hope-led West Indies team arrived in Pakistan on December. Since their arrival, they have been guarded heavily and a special security team will be deployed as well for the safety of the players.
According to a report, the Karachi police will deploy 13 senior officers, 315 NGOs, 3,822 constables, head constables, 50 women police personnel, 500 personnel of the Rapid Response Force and 889 commandos of the Special Security Unit. After New Zealand abandoned the tour just before the match followed by England cancelling their tour before the T20 World Cup 2021, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) head promised touring teams of tight security.
In a meeting at the Sindh Boys Scouts Auditorium on Thursday (December 9), a plan was devised by Additional Inspector General Imran Yaqoob Minhas. In the meeting, security concerns were brought under consideration as DIG Security and Emergency Services Division Maqsood Ahmed gave a briefing.
Special branch officials will also be in place to check the security; officers will be deployed in civilian clothes as well. Heavy security check-in is expected at the National Stadium in Karachi and hotels where the players will be staying.
A special weapons and tactics team will also operate to avoid any conspiracy during the tour. The West Indies team is set to play three T20Is and three ODIs in the tour. The tour is scheduled to conclude on December 22.
