Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup 2025 will take place in a hybrid model and the United Arab Emirates will host the mega event. The update on the tournament's schedule came after a recent meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in Dhaka.
As Sports Tak earlier reported that the marquee event will take place in September, Naqvi confirmed that the Asia Cup will start from September 9 and the final of the showpiece event will take place on 28th September.
"I am delighted to confirm the dates for the ACC Men's Asia Cup 2025 in UAE E. The prestigious tournament will take place from September 9th to 28th. We look forward to a spectacular display of cricket! Detailed Schedule will be out soon" Mohsin Naqvi posted.
As Sports Tak earlier reported, there will be eight teams participating in the marquee event: India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, UAE and Oman, and there will be 19 matches. India and Pakistan are most likely to be in the same group, which means both will potentially face each other for three times, once in the league stage, next in the Super 4 round and then possibly in the final. The Asia Cup is a rehearsal for the ICC World Cup, so the tournament will take place in T20 format because of next year's Twenty20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
Defending champions India are the designated hosts of the 2025 edition of the tournament, and the BCCI is in charge of finalising the match schedule. BCCI is working on the final draft, though a few commercial aspects are still being negotiated. An official announcement is expected soon via the ACC platform.
