Martyn's illustrious career

Martyn is widely remembered as a pivotal figure in the dominant Australian era led by Steve Waugh. Renowned for his effortless and elegant stroke-making, he amassed 13 Test centuries with an impressive career average of 46.37. His legacy is also defined by his role in the 2003 ODI World Cup victory, specifically his vital, unbeaten 88-run contribution in the final against India during a match-winning partnership with Ricky Ponting. Since his sudden retirement during the 2006 Ashes series, Martyn has largely stepped away from the spotlight.
