South Africa captain Temba Bavuma was dismissed due to a terrible mix-up. Batting first, the Proteas side put together 352 runs on the scoreboard at the cost of five wickets. Pakistan's wild celebration after the dismissal, however, was the climax, forcing Bavuma to halt on his way back to the dressing room. The on-field umpires even cautioned Pakistan cricket team skipper Mohammad Rizwan for the celebration.
Saud Shakeel and Kamran Ghulam's unnecessary celebration
In the final game match before the ODI tri-series final at the National Stadium in Karachi, the incident occurred during the 29th over of the first innings when Bavuma, batting at 82, fended off a good-length delivery from Mohammad Hasnain on the penultimate ball in the direction of backward point. He went for a single right away. Bavuma was left stranded in the middle of the pitch as Matthew Breetzke answered the call but decided to abandon in the last second.
After collecting the ball, Saud Shakeel threw it straight to the striker's end. Bavuma was not even near to making it back to the crease and as a result, South Africa lost their second wicket, ending their 119-run stand. After the breakthrough, the Pakistani players were ecstatic.
Shakeel and Salman Agha joined Kamran Ghulam as he ran directly in front of Bavuma to celebrate. Bavuma had to halt his journey back to the pavilion due to the raucous celebration before the Pakistani players shifted out of his path. The umpires were not happy with the behaviour and called Rizwan right away, which led to a long conversation.
On Wednesday, Pakistan's bowling weakness in the final overs was once again revealed. They let up 110 runs against Proteas, who displayed an incredible batting performance, after losing their opening match to New Zealand by 123 runs in the last 10 overs. Before stitching a century stand with Breetzke, captain Bavuma and Tony de Zorzi established a fifty-run opening partnership. South Africa concluded with 352 for five after witnessing another century-run partnership between Breetzke and Heinrich Klaasen for the third wicket. Both players reached their respective 80s.
