Bihar captain Sakibul Gani has broken the record for fastest century in List A cricket by an Indian. On the morning of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, records tumbled and the ball was often seen sailing over the ropes. Gani cashed in on the opportunity and scored a 32-ball century, breaking the record for fastest Vijay Hazare Trophy history which belonged to Punjab’s Anmolpreet Singh from 35 balls.
Gani’s record-breaking ton and Bihar’s record-breaking total
Gani walked out to bat at no.5 and hit 12 sixes, 10 fours in his unbeaten 128. Earlier, Vaibhav Suryavanshi had preyed on Arunachal Pradesh bowlers. The 14-year-old reached his century from just 36 balls. He got to 150 from 59 balls, breaking former South Africa captain AB de Villiers' record. After his 84-ball 190, Gani and wicketkeeper-batter Ayush Loharuka shared a 94-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Gani ended the innings with a six as Bihar posted 574/6 in the plate group clash, the highest ever score in List A cricket.

Gani’s record was under threat from Kishan
Minutes later, Gani’s record was in danger. While Gani achieved the record at Ishan Kishan’s homeground in Ranchi, the Jharkhand threatened in in Ahmedabad. Kishan had a chance to break Gani’s record but missed out on equalling it by just one delivery. The wicketkeeper-batter reached his century from just 33 balls. Kishan ended up hitting 14 sixes in his 39-ball 125, laced with 14 sixes and seven fours. He helped his side post 412/9 against Karnataka.

Only 2 List A tons faster than Gani
However, both Gani and Kishan could not break Australia’s Jake Fraser-McGurk’s record for fastest List A ton. Playing for South Australia against Tasmania, he had reached his century from just 29 balls in the Marsh Cup 2023-24 clash.
In ODIs, the record belongs to De Villiers. He had reached his century from just 31 balls against West Indies in Johannesburg in 2015.
