Shubman Gill urged compassion and said India's youth deserve every opportunity to learn, dream and shape the nation's future while expressing support for peaceful student protests.

Gill joins Yuvraj Singh, Sachin Tendulkar, Suresh Raina, Irfan Pathan and Shikhar Dhawan among the cricketers who have publicly backed the students.

India Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill has come out in support of the ongoing student protests, becoming the latest cricketer to voice his concern after mentor Yuvraj Singh. Gill shared a message on his Instagram story as demonstrations linked to the NEET controversy continue across the country.

The protests are being spearheaded by the Cockroach Janta Party, with environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk extending his support through an indefinite fast (ended now). Protesters have demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, holding him responsible for the NEET paper leaks that resulted in a re-test.

The demonstrations intensified with the beginning of Parliament's monsoon session on July 20, after the CJP called for a march to Parliament. Thousands participated in the protest, although demonstrators alleged that police blocked key routes and used lathi charges and tear gas to disperse the crowds. Since the protests began, clashes have taken place on multiple occasions, with police citing law and order concerns while taking action against protesters.

"As a young Indian, I believe our generation deserves every opportunity to learn, dream and shape the future we all aspire to. I have immense respect for every young person who believes in making their voice heard peacefully."

Gill also underlined the importance of education and urged everyone to approach the issue with compassion and mutual respect while keeping students' interests at the centre of the conversation.

He concluded his message with the words:

"For India's future."

Cricketing fraternity rallies behind students

Shubman Gill is not the only Indian cricketer to publicly support the students. His mentor Yuvraj Singh had earlier voiced his support for the protests, and several other former India stars have also spoken out on the issue.
