Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar lavished praise on wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson citing his performance in the T20Is. Samson who is recently promoted as an opener smashed three tons in his last five T20Is. Bangar reckoned that playing consecutive matches frees him a little bit.
The wicketkeeper batter last featured in a four-match T20I series against South Africa where India registered 3-1 win against the hosts.
"Glad to see the kind of success that he has been blessed with currently. He has been there for a long time. It's just that he has got the right opportunities and a good run of opportunities because every batter, if he is playing three or four matches in a row, that frees him a little bit," Bangar told Star Sports, as quoted by Sportskeeda.
According to Bangar, Samson's batting promotion is the main reason behind his impressive performance for India. He believes that Sanju is a six-hitter and he is the only batter after legendary Yuvraj Singh who can do that.
"Batting up the order, he doesn't really have to worry about the situation. The field is up and he is a six-hitter. He can hit sixes with ease. After Yuvraj Singh, if there is one batter who can do it with such ease on a consistent basis, it has to be Sanju Samson. So just to see him firing on all cylinders is a treat to watch," Bangar observed.
Earlier, Bangar reckoned that BCCI will have to pick Sanju Samson over Rishabh Pant as India's reserved wicketkeeper batter for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 which will take place next month.
Samson who is currently on rest will most likely to be seen featuring in the upcoming five-match T20I series against England.
