An official announcement is yet to be made but India’s T20 World Cup 2026-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav is set to lose the leadership role as the selectors look ahead. Suryakumar’s form has been a concern for past year and a half. Meanwhile, Suryakumar’s inconsistent run carried forward to the ongoing T20 Mumbai 2026, a state franchise T20 league. Leading Triumphs Knights MNE on June 4 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, Suryakumar walked out to bat at no.4 and was dismissed for a single-digit score.

Suryakumar lost his wicket to leg-spinner Sagarr Chhabriaa in the eighth over of the innings. His team ended up suffering a batting collapse after in-form Nitin Kumar Goel lost his wicket for a 27-ball 40. They lost eight wickets for 108 in 15.2 overs. Parikshit Valsangkar (19-ball 36) and Jayesh Pokhare's (13-ball 31) cameos took Triumphs Knights to 178/8. Pokhare wreaked havoc in the slog overs, hitting three sixes.

Suved Parkar-led Bandra Blasters chased down the target of 179 with four wickets in hand and three balls to spare. Parkar scored 53 runs from 37 balls, including five sixes and two fours. Jay Sanjay Jain remained unbeaten for a 24-ball 49, featuring five maximums.

2 defeats in a row for SKY’s Knights

This was Triumphs Knights’ second defeat of the ongoing edition. In their first game, Suryakumar contributed with an 11-ball 19 cameo. Goel's 56-ball 93 wasn't enough in the run chase as Triumphs Knights lost by 21 runs to Ajinkya Rahane's North Mumbai Panthers.
