On December 2 at Jadavpur University Campus, Kolkata, Goa handed Rajat Patidar’s Madhya Pradesh a seven-wicket defeat in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 encounter. Left-arm pacer Arjun Tendulkar’s three-fer restricted Madhya Pradesh to 170/6 despite Harpreet Singh Bhatia's unbeaten 52-ball 80. Then, Abhinav Tejrana's 33-ball 55 and captain Suyash Prabhudessai's unbeaten 50-ball 75 got Goa over the line with seven wickets in hand and nine balls to spare.
Tendulkar sets the tone with new ball
After winning the toss, Prabhudessai opted to bowl first. Tendulkar struck in consecutive overs with the new ball to dismiss both openers Shivang Kumar and Ankush Singh. Madhya Pradesh's top-order continued to collapse as Harsh Gawali lost his wicket to Heramb Parab. Madhya Pradesh lost three wickets for 10 runs in 3.2 overs. Harpreet and Patidar did damage control with a 73-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Patidar struggled to get going and departed for a 26-ball 29. He became V Koushik's only wicket of the day.
No Iyer magic, Harpreet-Aniket launch brutal onslaught
Venkatesh Iyer could not find a boundary and struggled to rotate strike as well. He scored just six runs from 13 balls and lost his wicket to Tendulkar. In the slog overs, Harpreet and Aniket Verma wreaked havoc. Tendulkar took a beating from Harpreet as well. Harpreet scored 80 runs off 52 balls, featuring eight fours and a couple of sixes. Verma contributed with a 13-ball 34 cameo including four sixes. He lost his wicket to Parab off the final ball of the innings.
Prabhudessai plays captain’s knock
Goa's run chase did not get off the ideal start. Iyer opened the bowling from the other end and dismissed opener Ishaan Gadekar in the second over. Tendulkar struck three boundaries in his 10-ball 16 before losing his wicket to Tripuresh Singh. Tejrana and Prabhudessai took control of the run chase. They shared an 89-run partnership for the third wicket. Tejrana's 33-ball 55 was laced with three fours and four sixes. Lalit Yadav and Prabhudessai ensured there is no anti-climax to the run chase. The Goan skipper hit six fours and three sixes in his unbeaten 50-ball 75. Goa registered their second win from four games, staying alive in the race for a spot in quarterfinals.
