After Gautam Gambhir's appointment as the new Indian head coach, his history with legendary batter Virat Kohli became the biggest topic as both players would now have to share the dressing room. However, both of them have buried the hatchet of their past disputes during the IPL 2024 itself, it was still a big discussion. Former Indian cricketer Ashish Nehra who is the senior of both Gambhir and Kohli from Delhi cricket itself said whatever happened between them was because both of them are passionate players.

“You are talking about Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli. They are two passionate people. When they will play for any team, they are against the opposition. But when they are together in a dress room, they are together. Here you are talking about Virat Kohli who is 36-37 years old. He has that much experience. Gautam Gambhir has also gained more experience. And I agree with the fact that the burden is felt by people. And it's not like Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli, there are so many players who have been selected. But when they are playing for the same team, they have done a great job as a player. And you will see this in coach and captain and coach and senior players. Because Gautam Gambhir is that kind of personality, he is upfront. Transparent which is great, he talks in front. That is very important. I mean, see, there is a different style of the players to operate either coach, captain or player. But I don't see any problem especially with these two and where they are in their careers,” Ashish Nehra said in an exclusive conversation with Sports Tak which was arranged by Sony Sports Network.
Gambhir on his relationship with Kohli
Gambhir said that his relationship with Kohli is really personal and the run-ins between the two are only good for TRPs. He said he shares a really great relationship with Kohli and has had conversations with him.
"Very good for the TRPs (his run-ins with Kohli in the IPL) but my relationship with him is not public. On the field, everyone will fight for their own team. At the moment, we are representing India. I share a very good relationship. I have had lots of chances to talk to him. It is not important what we discuss. The most important thing is we both have to work hard to make India proud. He is a thorough professional, a world-class player, and that is going to continue", Gambhir said in the press conference when asked about the speculated ego clash between the two in the dressing room.
