The dates, venues and format of the upcoming Asia Cup 2027, hosted by Bangladesh, have been revealed. According to a report by Cricbuzz, the continental tournament is scheduled to kick off on June 18 next year, with the grand finale slated for July 4. Shifting away from the T20 format used in the previous edition, the tournament returns to the 50-over One Day International (ODI) format this time, serving as a crucial dress rehearsal for teams ahead of the ODI World Cup 2027 later that year.
Big update on Asia Cup 2027's dates, venues
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has already initiated operational groundwork for the event, which will be staged across three premier venues in Bangladesh, Mirpur, Chattogram, and Sylhet. While the 2025 edition of the tournament was held in September, the schedule has been pushed forward to the June–July window for 2027. Officials are expected to finalise the specific venue-wise match allocations within the next few days.

This tournament marks a big milestone for Bangladesh, hosting the Asia Cup for the first time since 2016, a memorable edition where they finished as runners-up after an eight-wicket defeat to India in the final. Additionally, the 2027 Asia Cup will be the first major international tournament hosted under the leadership of former cricket star Tamim Iqbal, who recently took over as the new President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Alongside the Asia Cup updates, crucial developments have emerged regarding India’s upcoming bilateral tour of Bangladesh. Addressing safety concerns, Ibrahim Ahmed, son of Bangladesh's Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, assured that player security will be a top priority, with provisions to deploy extra forces if necessary, especially with India series scheduled. However, he also noted that formal discussions with the BCCI regarding the bilateral series have not yet yielded any definitive or positive breakthroughs.
Will India visit Bangladesh for Asia Cup 2027?
BCB previously expressed optimism regarding India's upcoming visit, despite earlier doubts clouding the tour. Driven by this confidence, the board moved forward by inviting Expressions of Interest (EOI) for its home international broadcasting and sponsorship rights for the 2026 and 2027 seasons, explicitly highlighting India's 2026 tour as a centerpiece of the package.
Furthermore, recent shifts in the regional cricket calendar indicate that tensions surrounding the bilateral series are actively dissipating. Notably, the omission of T20Is from India's upcoming August tour of Sri Lanka, contrasting with prior scheduling discussions, strongly hints that cricket administrators are clearing the decks and growing far more confident about India traveling to Bangladesh.
However, following a period of highly strained geopolitical relations between the two nations, it's still uncertain whether India will visit Bangladesh for the continental tournament or not. The political friction had previously escalated to the point where the former Yunus-led administration pulled Bangladesh out of the T20 World Cup hosted by India, officially citing severe safety and security concerns at the time.
