Cricket Australia (CA) on July 21 announced a 13-player squad for the historic two-Test series against Bangladesh at home. The senior trio of Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon and skipper Pat Cummins has returned after injury setbacks.
Cummins had featured in just one Test in the Ashes 2025-26, Hazlewood was ruled out of the entire series whereas Lyon wasn't available for last two Tests due to a hamstring injury.

Both Cummins and Hazlewood were ruled out of ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. They did return to action in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for their respective franchises. Meanwhile, Lyon will be playing his first competitive match since the Adelaide Test last summer.

Australia’s squad for Bangladesh Tests -
Pat Cummins (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Jake Weatherald, Beau Webster.
Players missing from the Test squad -
After Usman Khawaja’s retirement, Travis Head has been promoted as the designated opener with Jake Weatherald as his partner. Pace-bowling all-rounder Michael Neser and Brendan Doggett did not make the cut as senior pacers have returned. Neser had taken 15 wickets in three Tests in Ashes 2025-26 whereas Doggett bagged seven in two Tests. Off-spinner Todd Murphy isn't part of the squad either.
However, they have been training with the 13-member squad and will be ready to chip in if there are any injuries to key players.
When will the Test series between Australia and Bangladesh begin?
The Test series will begin on August 13 at Darwin, Marrara Cricket Ground. The second Test will be played at Great Barrier Reef Arena, Mackay, starting August 22.
